The one show that we were fond of was the Epcot Forever Show. While in Disney World, my family went to a few shows, and the best ones, hands down, that we went to were the nighttime spectaculars. Our first night there, after unpacking at the Grand Floridian, we went to Epcot, had dinner and set up to watch Illuminations. My grandmother passed away in 1998, but my family and I convinced my grandfather to go on one more family vacation to Disney World in 2000. My grandparents took me to Disney World every year since it opened until I was in my late teens. “Thousand circles ’round the Sun”- it gets me every time. That show is special enough, but being there that night, under those circumstances, and, most importantly, being together, well, it’s a memory that will always be in my heart. We spread one blanket on the stones, and snuggled under the second one. We watched from the short stone wall that skirts the Norway Pavilion. Anyway, we waited to watch the second Illuminations show, since that was timed for midnight. As the night went on, I lost count of how many people asked us where we got the blankets. We went there to get Mexican blankets, as pretty much all the sweatshirts had been snatched up. It was so crowded that they would only let into the Mexican Pavilion the same number of people that came out. Disney handed out “Happy New Year” hats and noisemakers, etc. The park was at capacity, and it was also COLD. ![]() My wife and I were in EPCOT for New Year’s Eve, 2000.
